Connector Tuning

The core eccentricity of fibres connectorised with monoblock ferrules is optimised by rotating the ferrule in the connector body, or the antirotation key on the connector body so as to position the fibre core in an area within ±30°of the antirotation key. This results in better alignment between fibres whose connectors have also been tuned.

connector-tuning

Tuning is increasingly being used to correct concentricity errors caused from using ferrules with larger hole diameters to reduce costs. The test results achieved will not be reproduced when these cables are mated with cables that are not tuned in the field. Fibrepulse maintain a select-to-fit process for all connectors prior to termination, which yields more centred terminations. The insertion losses achieved are thus <0.30dB pre-tuning and <0.15dB after tuning.
